In April 1993, Keith, founder of Cambridge Courier Services, set off on his motorcycle with his first paid parcel delivery.

“I remember that actual job; it was to Bristol for a company based in Mercers Row. I was so excited… my new business was up and running!”

The Passion Behind a Cambridge Courier Service

The idea of forming his own Cambridge courier service came from Keith’s love of riding motorcycles.

“Is there a better way to earn a living than by doing something you already enjoy so much?”

However, professional courier work demands far more than passion alone. Unlike recreational riding, there was no hiding from the elements when customers were relying on urgent deliveries to reach their destination on time.

“The only difference was, once you are offering a professional parcel service, there was no ‘wimping out’ if it was cold, raining or even snowing.”

One particularly memorable journey took him from Cambridge to Southampton in extreme conditions.

“By the time I reached the M25, the rain had turned to sleet and before I was halfway, I was riding through horizontal driving snow and wind. But it was all worth it when I arrived at my destination and saw the service engineers’ faces light up with joy and gratitude.”

That unwavering commitment to reliability remains one of the core values behind CCS’s time-critical delivery service today.

Jan Celebrates 18 Years at Cambridge Courier Services

A pivotal part of this growth has been Jan, Manager and Head Controller, who celebrates her 18th anniversary since returning to the business.

Her responsibilities go far beyond day-to-day scheduling. With years of experience on the road, Jan brings exceptional real-world insight into vehicle management, driver coordination, and job planning.

In the late 1990s, Jan tackled one of the toughest routes in the industry — a London multi-drop run in a 3.5-tonne van.

This demanding schedule included up to 22 time-critical deliveries in central London, with locations such as The Ritz and The Savoy on her route.

“Experiences like these have set me in good stead for my current position. I have earned the respect of my staff in a mainly male-dominated industry, which is a ‘must’ in my position.”

Today, Jan’s leadership ensures that every same-day courier job in Cambridge and beyond is handled with accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism.
